Excellence Programme
Our Excellence Programme gives students amazing chances to try out something they may otherwise never have encountered or considered having a go at - perhaps to discover unknown talents and interests, perhaps to build skills and experiences in areas that will have long-reaching impacts into their futures.
Increasingly, employers are finding that young people are entering the workforce with narrow parameters of experience and knowledge. We aim to directly address this by offering students an incredibly diverse set of options throughout their years at Carrington School, to try their hands and minds at activities they may otherwise never have come across, and broaden their horizons and opportunities, gaining an edge over competitors for courses and employment.
Each term, Key Stage 3 students choose a different Excellence Programme session from our eclectic selection.
Here's a selection of sessions we have offered:
- Short-Mat Bowls
- Python Coding
- Film Critique
- Exploring Feminist Themes
- American Football
- Italian
- Debating
- Chess
- Jewellery-Making
- Lino-Printing
- Government & Politics
- Knitting
- Woodland Crafts
- Rock Band
- Bike It
- Ultimate Frisbee
- Softball
- Meditation
- Yoga for Teens
- Money Management
- Space and Astronomy
The programme aims to:
- extend learning opportunities and build students' cultural capital
- support students in exploring and pursuing their own areas of interest and strengths once outside the normal school curriculum
- develop students' self-confidence and leadership skills, improve their self-motivation, cultivate good team skills, broaden their experiences, improve creativity and support emotional well-being
- ensure students acquire the skills that colleges and employers are looking for
