11s Have a Nuclear Adventure

10th December 2024

Yesterday, our 11s History students swapped the classroom for something a little more underground - a day trip to the Kelvedon Hatch Nuclear Bunker. This wasn’t your average history lesson; it was a chance to step back into the Cold War era and explore the fascinating (and slightly eerie) world of Britain’s emergency planning during a nuclear crisis.

Armed with torches, students ventured 125 feet below ground into the bunker’s labyrinth of rooms. They got to see where government officials would have plotted survival strategies and even sat in the Prime Minister’s chair in the war room - talk about a power trip!

This was a truly memorable trip for all involved and we're sure the 11s came away with a new appreciation for history - and maybe a slight fear of tight spaces!
