7s Meet a Real Life Author
12th January 2024
Our two librarians took ten lucky Year 7 students to an author visit at Reigate Grammar School. The author, Chris Bradford, is the writer of many popular books for children and young adults such as the Young Samurai and the Bodyguard series. He talked to the students about his book Gamer, set in a world of ‘Virtual Kombat’ where life is ‘so real it hurts’. Chris Bradford gave a lively and informative talk to the students and he got them all up on their feet doing ninja moves. The students asked the author lots of sensible questions about his books and about life as an author and have said they found the visit both fun and inspiring.
The visit was part of the ReadingZone Book Club, a weekly book group run in school, where chosen students explore and talk about books.
Carrington is lucky to have been chosen to trial this book club in association with ReadingZone (www.readingzone.com). The aim of the book club is to build confidence and make reading fun, as well as enhancing literacy skills. Reading is one of the clearest indicators for future success in life, and it is important to us that our students learn how to get the most out of reading, including experiencing the joy and wellbeing benefits.
