8s Get Some Food for Thought
24th September 2022
On Friday 23 September a group of our Year 8’s got some real “Food for Thought” when we visited the Wakehurst Place Science Festival.
We were treated to a day packed full of interactive experiences lead by scientists from the Millennium Seed Bank and members of the horticulture team, centred around how Wakehurst and the Millennium Seed Bank are tackling the challenge of ensuring the world is fed in the face of global environmental change.
We learnt how to make seed bombs, pot our own plants, all about our native fauna, including which provide a good source of food (Mr Smith is very much looking forward to his stinging nettle pesto!) as well as investigating how we can ensure we keep hold of our broad variety of plant species for the future.
To finish off we made a pledge to say what we could do to protect our plants and ensure food security for the future.
Wakehurst were so impressed with the engagement of our students, they have asked us back to future events so watch this space for the next opportunity!
