Focus On Phoenix Project '24

16th December 2024

Our Phoenix Project is taking place again this year with a new group of fourteen Year 8 students ready to get involved in all the special activities we have arranged for them. The aim of the Project is to raise aspirations across the core subjects of English, Maths and Science.

Each of the experiences are added to their portfolio, with information about what they feel they learn about themselves being added throughout the year. At the end of the year all students will present to their parents what they have learned.

Winter 24

This term the Phoenix Project had the opportunity to visit the University of Kent. We had the opportunity to visit student accommodation and have a walk around the campus to get an insight into what life as a uni student is like. After a lunch in the student refectory, where they were able to choose what they wanted to eat, and go and buy it themselves, Phoenix students enjoyed a scavenger hunt around the campus.

This was a great insight into what the future could hold and everyone really enjoyed seeing what uni life was like.

Last night students celebrated the end of the first term with an unforgettable trip to London to see the hit stage production of Mrs Doubtfire; packed with excitement, laughter, and a sprinkle of chaos.

The beloved Robin Williams classic, brought to life on stage, did not disappoint! With jaw-dropping set designs, laugh-out-loud moments, and heartwarming performances, the show had everyone clapping, cheering, and maybe even shedding a tear or two.

Autumn 24

This year’s Phoenix Project launched back in September with a bonding/team building trip to Dorset where students camped for three nights and took part in a range of activities that required them to work as a team and build relationships with one another.

Their next visit was to West Horsley Place for a tour of the Estate and to watch a performance of an original script 'Wild Walks', produced, directed and performed by Guilford Shakespeare Company. In Wild Walks, serious messages about nature conservation were brought to life by a host of wild creatures and delivered through an exciting blend of modern language and Shakespeare’s prose in this family-friendly, interactive, outdoor performance about nature recovery in Surrey.

Next up was Earlswood Junior School where our students led Reading Workshops for Year 3 children. There was also the opportunity to put to use what they had learnt in Dorset, running Team Building activities with the Earlswood children.
